Head of School for Natural Sciences, and Senior Lecturer in Animal Behaviour and Welfare, Faculty of Science, Business and Enterprise, University of Chester, UK
I am passionate about animal welfare and passing on my knowledge to the next generation of scientists. My background is primarily in the behaviour and welfare of production animals. I have mainly worked with dairy cattle during my PhD looking at the effects of dynamic group systems on welfare and productivity, and sheep as part of my post-doc and on-going research. I also have an interest in equine species, which stems from my first degree (BSc) in Equine Science, and companion animals such as dogs and cats, which is supported by my master’s degree (MSc) in Animal Behaviour.
Please take a look at my research page to find out more.
I am also impassioned about passing on my knowledge and facilitating the learning of others. I joined the University of Chester in 2015 where I have been able to teach across a variety of programmes and subject areas. My main areas of teaching expertise include the behaviour, health and husbandry of production animals and applying this to welfare assessments. I am interested in how disease and an animals physiology play a role in their behaviour and how technology can help improve welfare in a variety of settings.
